The Allman Brothers is a band that just keeps ticking despite tragedies and misfortunes. You may recall last years Hittin' The Note, which was an album that pretty much put all the rest of the catalog to shame with its brilliance. Now, the band has chosen to release yet another live album, number 13 or 14 or maybe more. The thing with the Allman Brothers is that they are at their best in front of an audience. They all have the form and skill of studio musicians but are able to adapt to lengthy jams quite easily. This is another recording from The Beacon Theatre in New York, a place they play at on an annual basis. Derek Trucks is now an Allman regular, thank goodness and he is sounding better than ever. Warren Haynes works well alongside Derek. I can't pull songs out from the playlist because they all hit home. I have always had a soft spot for The Allmans and it's great to see that they are this strong after all their hard years. The live music just shows a band who loves to play live at their finest. The production on One Way Out is perfect too, sounding like you are right in the front row watching the guitar solos. I'll admit that The Allman Brothers aren't for everyone but if you have loved the band in the past and forgotten about them, now is the time to try a new album on for size.
