October, November is the sophomore album from Berkley's Black Cat Music. Their music is twisted and strange while being vaguely accessible. The band has elements of what some of the current New York sound but only much more aggressive and a little less on the retro side of things. The album kicks off with one of the album highlights "The Bridal Veil". The band may end up in the punk section but there is a lot of straight ahead rock elements involved with their sound. Think of Australia's Jet with a little more punk thrown in. Hard rocking music with grit and edge, enough to keep most punks and rockers alike satisfied. Another cool track closer to the Strokes is "The Jet Trash". It moves along at a modest pace while the members barely break a sweat. Vocalist Brady (yup, just Brady as far as I can tell) has quite an adaptable voice that fits the mix very nicely. There are times when Black Cat Music gets their punk on like "The French Kiss" but they have it more in a Murder City Devil style than the typical Bay Area punk. October November is a good album, not a great one but it does satisfy my primal urges to rock out.
