Organic Thoughts are the shizrit. Or at least that's what they would have us think. The group is talks pretty big. Unfortunately the underground hip hop world is usually about being modest. Usually the more I listen to an album, the more qualities ooze out. With The Purest Form I actually got more and more irritated. Apparently, Organic Thoughts almost didn't take off. The primary members, Fraze, Reason and onPoynt took off to pursue their battle DJ ambitions. It was when a female MC, El Gambina entered the mix and pulled the group back together in 2000. They released an EP called Perceptions and it created quite a buzz in the NY rap world. You can feel an old-school vibe to the group and there is no denying the MC's skills. But with that many DJs in the group, you would think that they would have had a little more depth. I think Organic Thoughts is a group that will mature with age. Give them 2-3 more releases and we might have something that will amount to an underground classic. As it is The Purest Form is not bad, just not memorable and in a world of everybody doing hip hop you don't have room for mediocre.
