I hadn't been exposed to the work of Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn's music before C'mon Miracle showed up but from what I have read she has never quite met her potential. Songs that haven't quite pulled their weight but suggested that she had so much more potential were quite common. With this album, her third on her own after backing up the Microphones for a couple tours, she sounds like she has found a spirit to get those songs up to where they should be. The music is fairly quiet but easily holds your attention with some thoughtful lyrics and some inventive song structures. The first three songs sound like a high quality singer/songwriter's output but it's the gentle guitar strumming of "Don't Die In Me" that really grabbed me. Her voice really reminds me of a Liz Phair of days gone by but the song arrangements are more along the lines of traditional K Record bands. You can hear Calvin Johnson and Phil Elvrum's influence on the entire record with their production input. "Look Up" has some of those lo-fi qualities but it's Mirah's soft voice that pulls us out of the dregs. Another track that would be lost with any other female vocalist is "You've Gone Away Enough". She's got the voice, and now it seems that she's found the songs as well. This is a very appealing album.
