Mike Skinner has another winner on his hands with his sophomore album. Now, I can't say that I've listened to an album from beginning to end to hear his entire story but that's what you pretty much get drawn in on with A Grand Don't Come For Free, The Streets second effort. It's a bit of a concept album about pretty much losing a love and moping about. I won't tell you how it goes but rest assured, it's probably the best effort of a concept album that I have heard, hip hop for sure. If you were one of the few that missed out on The Streets debut then you need only listen to one track. If Mike's rapping gets on your nerves then you need to walk away. Otherwise you will be in for a treat. The samples and beats really accompany Mike nicely. I don't usually like the offbeat rapping style but maybe it's the British accent that holds my attention. Screw Dizzee Rascal, The Streets is where it's at. Check out the rock beats of "Fit But You Know It" for an awesome example of what Skinner is capable of. "Empty Cans" is a little more aggressive and damn good too. He even does the mellower tracks like "Could Well Be In", and they impress as well.
