If you have been around for a while, you will know my fondness for the Ninja Tune label. This compilation is one of their budget samplers giving prospective buyers a glimpse of what to expect in the coming year. Things are looking good for an interesting year. While you may not see a lot of familiar faces on this comp, the music is of the high standard that we've come to expect from the label. The album starts out with a really jazzy newcomer, Skalpel and a track called "1958". Hexastatic makes a return with "Chase Me", a fairly upbeat track in Coldplay fashion. A cut and paste specialist named Diplo checks in with a track called "Don't Fall". I've already heard the Blockhead album and the whole thing is damn good. Same goes for the Big Dada artist, Lotek Hi-Fi, checking in with "Ram Dancehall". cLOUDDEAD submits "Rifle Eyes" for your approval and I'm really growing to like this wacky hip hop style. Jaga Jazzist and Wagon Christ are here as well. The last track wasn't quite up to Ninja Tunes' standards though. It was the 10+ minute track from Sixtoo entitled "Boxcutter Emporium". I just found it to be a little boring and grating. The end was nice but the first half of the song was a little intrusive. Otherwise, this again is another great Zen compilation that fans will love and newbies will get a taste of the new Ninja Tune artists.
