I have been a fan of Thiever Corporation from their debut release, Songs From The Thievery Hi-Fi. This is a duo that knows how to make very compelling and interesting downtempo music that you can either have playing in the background or give your full attention to. Either way the music is so interesting and different that this is a group that deserves to stand out from the pack. They also have no problem integrating ethnic music into their mix. On The Richest Man In Babylon, this is no different. Eric Hilton and Rob Garza take you on a world journey in the length of the CD. “Facing East takes you dead in the middle of an East Indian ceremony and “The Outernationalist goes into their strongest territory, Dub. “Exilio (Exile) drops down in Central Amerida and “Meu Destino is one of the smoothest Brazillian tracks I have heard in a while courtesy of Patrik De Santos on vocals. Downtempo electronica would be fairly stale if it were not for groups like Thievery Corporation showing other artists what can be done. It’s an area that has so much room for expansion and Hilton and Garza know that and are blazing a path for many to follow.
