There's two new bands coming out this year that have the same formula, the first being L.A.'s The Shore and the second being Keane from the UK. Two different necks of the woods but their sound is very similar. I was exposed to The Shore a little early only because of the self-titled EP that came out earlier this year but now that I have heard Keane's debut as well. I's surprised at how close the two are. They both have a classic Brit-pop feel to them. The Shore have an interesting guitar tone on some of their songs that set them apart a little. One of my favorites is "Waiting For The Sun". It has a sunny overtone to it and the guitars are bright without washing out the the rest of the arrangement. Ben Ashley is a dead-ringer for Richard Ashcroft, not a bad place to be in the vocal area. Ben seems like he's a little more modest but his vocal range is just as impressive. "Different Ways" sounds like it was going to be a an Oasis song until been manages to steer it away. This self-titled album is impressive and I wouldn't be surprised if it is successful for them but the 10 songs sound a little too similar. I have no doubt that we should start to hear The Shore on the radio with this album though. There is a Quicktime video for "Hard Road" included on the album.
