With "Academy Fight Song" being one of alt-rocks greatest moments, there are actually few that would probably remember Mission of Burma. Vs was one of those albums that would go on and influence many up and coming musicians with it's slightly different approach to rock music. Oh, that was in 1982. 22 years later (god, I feel old) they have decided to properly follow that album up with a reunion album entitled ONoffOn, quite an appropriate title for their career. Roger Miller, Clint Conley and Peter Prescott took the stage once again in 2001 and felt the magic once again. People started freaking out about the shows and they decided that the next step was to hit the studios. They still have a similar sound but remember that each member has played different music in the interim. Bob Weston headed in to do the production duties and does a great job pulling out all the bands qualities. It took only one listen to really get into this album proving to me that this was a band that was 20 years ahead of their time. It's scary to think but true. The album is amazingly diverse. I think that is due to everyone in the band contributing vocals and songs. If I had to pick a favorite song it would probably be the opener "The Setup" but I think it's just that that's the song that ended the silence. Mission of Burma prove that not all reunions are a bad thing. ONoffON is not just for 30+ music fans. No, younger audiences would do good by checking out this album and discovering this influential band. Once you are hooked, track down Vs and experience their heritage.
