When I listened to New England for the first time I was brought an overwhelming sense of familiarity. Then I read the promo material and it all made sense. You see, Jason Anderson is the man behind the cool Wolf Colonel project. He is stepping out to reveal an even more personal side of himself than his other project allowed. Surprisingly New England sounds exactly like that, it's a personal effort that is pulled off nicely. Microphones fans will be happy because Phil Elvrum is helping out throughout the album. You will also hear other K Records affiliates contributing as well but do not be mistaken, New England is all about Jason and some of his quieter songs he has been saving over the years. These songs are consistently quiet but with each listen you tend to get a little more out of them. With that, I can't really pull out a favorite song. It would probably be between three tracks: the achingly long "Pen Pals", the duet between Elvrum and Anderson "You Fall", or "I Swear I Am". Those songs only stick out a little. If you have time, New England may be your next favorite slo-core album.
