How do you follow-up a Juno winning album? With Hopetown, of course. Jenny Whiteley was probably as shocked as her fans when she was awarded the Juno for Best Solo Traditional Roots Album. Not like it was anything new for her as the band she was involved with, Heartbreak Hill, won a Juno as well. That was a couple years ago and Whiteley has moved on from that career beginning highlight to record her impressive sophomore album Hopetown. This album features some of her family members in the form of Chris and Dan. The musicianship on Hopetown is something that makes her songwriting stand out even more. Jenny's voice is really something to behold. Her voice rivals that of Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch. It is along the same lines, musically as well. Listen to the last track "Day To Day" for proof of that as Jenny sings acappella for the most part. The album opens with the underspoken "Burning Of Atlanta" and never really looks back. "Hallelujah" is a track that is just begging to be a single. It's got a good flow to it and Jenny's voice really stands out. Hopetown has a great modern bluegrass feel that most country fans will enjoy as well as traditionalists. Jenny is a great addition to our blossoming music landscape.
