Peter Bruntnell is one of the best Americana artists to come along in a while. Normally not an issue but this talented singer/songwriter happens to come from Britain. While he shares a lot in common with the likes of Jay Farrar and Ryan Adams, Bruntnell is distinctively original. His voice is very soft-spoken and his songs speak with conviction and experience. Normal For Bridgewater starts out with one of the most personal songs on the album, "Handful of Stars". And if you like what you hear on that song, there are 11 more gems just waiting for you. What about the cleverly titled "Jurassic Parking Lot"? Come on, that's one of the most brilliant song titles I have heard in some time. On "Shot From A Spring" he takes a nod towards Saskatchewan. Impressive indeed. And as the album goes on you start to feel like you know Peter (first name basis). He leaves is with the inspirational "Outlaw (May The Sun Always Shine)". It's a good taste of an amazing songwriter. May Peter keep putting out material like this in the unsuspecting UK. There have been amazing UK based songwriters in the past so no reason why it can't continue. Check out Normal For Bridgwater (N.F.B.) if you are at all interested in Americana.
