The guys in The Walkmen are most definitely musician's musicians. They had an underground hit with their debut album and it even ended up in a Saturn commercial. It was one of my favorite albums last year. Now, they try that ever so hard sophomore album and this time around they are on Warner affiliated Record Collection. The album begins with the same haunting style of their last album with "What's In It For Me". It gets things off to a bit of a slow start but then they kick it in with "The Rat" which lives up to a more lively reputation. I didn't care for the third track "No Christmas While I'm Talking" but it was one of the only tracks I would have done without. Hamilton's vocals sound so much more confident on this album. The album production is a bit different on B&A. It's a little brighter and not so dream-like. One of my favorite tracks is the piano featured "Hang On, Siobhan". I must say that I listened to Bows & Arrows in the car for the first time and it did not hold up there. I don't know if it was just the mood I was in but I found that this album held up so much better with headphones. A word of caution. I felt that their debut was a little more complete even if they have managed to expand on some of the ideas here on their sophomore album.
