FREE! Yup, this label sampler is free from the Deep Elm website (link on the side). Deep Elm has been one of my favorite labels, while not always batting 100%, they end up being fairly reliable and when you start spouting off Deep Elm band names, people just kind of stare at you. "Have you heard the new Desert City Soundtrack?" - "Huh? Who are they?" It happens often with me because I'm always praising some DE band or another. The best way to get the word out on the street are these high quality label samplers and, as far as I know, This Is How I Kill My Tears is their first FREE sampler. It's probably one of their strongest to date as well. Like their tagline states "All about the music. Period." This compilation includes most of the recent artists like Sounds Like Violence, Desert City Soundtrack, Settlefish, the always impressive Red Animal War, one of my favorites Slowride and Benton Falls. There is a couple tracks from each featured artist. Burns out Bright are one of the label's highlights this year and the track "Our Proudest Moments" showcases that quite obviously. One band I'm not impressed with is Fire Divine but again, let's wait and see if their full-length shows us any different. Lock and Key is another artist that could easily go either way with their full-length. It should prove to be a good year for Deep Elm nonetheless. This coming from the label that brought us Appleseed Cast. I can't really say anymore about this FREE compilation. Go to the site and grab one to see just how fine this label really is.
