I think the Smugglers may have recorded the album of their career, even though there are only a couple original members left. Their sound hasn't changed much, it's only gotten cleaner. While they always get lumped into the punk bin, there is more upbeat rock here than most top 40 radio stations could handle. They have a little bit of an old-school punk ethic along the lines of The Rezillos but there is more rock than anything here. The Smugglers took their time recording Mutiny In Stereo and it is really apparent on tracks like "Mach 1" which is anything but. It was a hard to get small release, now available to the masses. The first single from the album is the infection "Billy Billy" complete with some pretty cool guitar riffs. "Larry" is a more straightforward rocker that is one of the album highlights. We also get treated to a studio version of "Don't Mess With Beez", a longtime live favorite. If you have never gotten into The Smugglers now would be a good time. This is a fun and very lively album that really showcases what these guys can do. It won't change the world but it will allow us to enjoy it.
