The Hiss - Panic Movement
If the Oasis were brought up on the Stooges instead of the Jam, they would have ended up just like the Hiss. It's really uncanny how much the Hiss do sound like Oasis even with the added volume and distortion. This group of musicians were brought together in Atlanta, GA and were obviously big fans of Brit pop along the lines of The Verve and Spiritualized. For obvious reasons, Panic Movement was released in the UK to admiring fans. Now it's time to get the North American release and give it a shot. Now Panic Movement is a good album but it does have some faults. The biggest one is that a lot of the songs sound way too similar. Taken one song at a time, and pretty much any song will do, they would sound like a fresh sound on the radio with their garage rock styles. Unfortunately there is much diversity on the album and most of the songs are very repetitive ("Now, I'm back on the Radio x20" on the namesake song). The Hiss have potential but they have to stretch out and look to making a song complete rather than repeating an idea over and over. I haven't written The Hiss off. It will be interesting to see what their sophomore album will sound like.
