Jen Chapin is a new singer/songwriter from New York. She has already been gaining high accolades before Linger actually hit the shelves. Her music is a gentle mix of jazz and pop similar to that of Norah Jones, minus the piano. Her lyrics and songwriting are very original and although a lot of love songs along this line delve in the cheese category, Jen sidesteps that nicely leaving us some classy ballads that really remind you of an evening date in New York City. Her talent may lie in the fact that she is the daughter of Harry Chapin. She wants people to respect her for her music because she fails to mention her father even once in her bio. The album opens with an upbeat track entitled "Little Hours". It gives you a good idea of what to expect on the remainder of the album. My favorite album is the smooth and funky "Me Be Me". I hear a little influence from Jann Arden on a few of the songs. Her voice shares some similarities to Jann's. Linger is a solid album that Jen will most likely gain some rampant fans.
