Herod is a group that has taken a little while to get going. They went through a few line-up changes until they arrived at who they are today. For Whom The Gods Would Destroy is Herod's debut and it's worth the wait. The album is a blistering mix of old-school metal, around Helloween era, and recent day hardcore. Their Buffalo street-sense should get them noticed on the New York hardcore scene and the music should get the fans out in droves. The guys don't have a problem throwing mellower stuff into the mix like on "The Finch Against The Fire". It gives the listener's ears a break. But they dive right back in with a blood curdling scream on "The End". The formula that Herod tends to stay true to is a hardcore break mixed with scorching hot guitars and even some gentle breaks in the middle. While on the surface it doesn't seem all that original but Herod comes off as something new and invigorating. They sidestep the cheese quite nicely and hammer out an impressive debut album.
