You may have not heard of Amp Fiddler but you most likely would have heard his work. He has played with the likes of George Clinton and Prince as well as worked with Moodyman and Carl Craig. He is a keyboard player by trait but Mr. Fiddler is also a very fine vocalist. It's both of these elements that come out on his long-overdue sophomore album Waltz of a Ghetto Fly. His first album was released back in 1990 as Mr. Fiddler but barely made a blip in musical history. I think Amp will see a bit more action with the funky Ghetto Fly. It takes a bit to get going but when he hits "Dreamin" all funksters are on the lookout. "Superficial" really gets going to making me think of a Prince/Ben Harper hybrid. The track is so funky and yet Fiddler remains so soulful. It's almost a curse how cool he pulls these tracks off. Smooth grooves are abundant and in between those grooves are some killer funk tracks. Waltz of a Ghetto Fly is an album that demands to be played at your next informal get together. Watch the heads start bobbing like crazy when "Superficial" hits the stereo. It's time people take note of Amp Fiddler.
