It's not an issue for a successful label such as Ninja Tune to put out a two disc compilation. That's exactly what they did with the sister release of Zen RMX, ZenCD. Zen RMX, on the other hand, is a little riskier, although not all that much. They have brought in the likes of Squarepusher, Cornelius, Fourtet, Manitoba, Luke Vibert, and many others to take some of the more popular Ninja Tune tracks. The album starts out with a Cornelius remix of Coldcut's "Atomic Moog". It really sets the stage for what to expect over the course of the two albums. There are a couple remixes from Squarepusher which are some of the best tracks on the album. Another highlight is the Manitoba remix of Mr. Scruff's "Sweetsmoke". The Herbaliser take a crack at their own "Something Wicked" and turn it into a funky bossa nova track. Ninja Tune's fans will freak over a lot of these and casual fans will also find something to write home about. If left with a choice on which compilation to buy, it would be hard to say but I would probably recommend this one. It's a little more lively and fresh than the ZenCD album. Buy them both if you can!
