Now what's all the buzz around Kanye West? I decided to pick up The College Dropout to check out what everyone was freaking out about. You may or may not know that Kanye West is the brains behind so many hip hop hits. His production skills have surfaced on Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Ludacris and even Talib Kweli tracks. People were a little skeptical when Kanye stated he wanted to step out into the spotlight but with the release of The College Dropout, those skeptics are hard to track down. He is more than able to rock a rhyme or two and is not afraid to home in on some tough subjects and some fun subjects as well. The overall theme of "dropout" runs through fairly well, only straying from it a few times. West also recruits his friends that he has worked with before and get them lending a hand on some tracks. The Jay-Z assisted "Never Get Me Down" is a great track. Talib Kweli and Common join forces on "Get Em High", one of the album's many highlights. Ludacris is present with a track called "Breathe In Breathe Out". Another interesting collaboration is the track called "Slow Jamz". Normally, slow jams aren't my thing but with West, Twista and Jamie Foxx onboard, one can't deny the charm of this one. But one of the highlights is Kayne's first single, "Through The Wire". Another is the track "Jesus Walks". It's a driving track with some great lyrical work happening. And then we get his whole career fit into one 12 minute track called "Last Call", talking about labels that were interested in him, his meeting with Jay-Z and his near signing with Capitol. Kanye West has proven that he is an all around hip hop artist.
