Alpha - Stargazing
Alpha is back with an amazing follow-up to The Impossible Thrill. The duo of Corin Dingley and Andy Jenks have come a long way since their sophomore album and obviously been inspired by something. They could be England's answer to Air. Stargazing is such a perfect title and you too will realize that as soon as the first track, "Sleepdust", washes over you. Stargazing was originally released in Europe last year and Nettwerk thought it unfair that North America be without this release so are re-releasing it domestically. This album really takes you on a journey to so many places. Stargazing could have come across as cheesy but instead it comes of classy. There are many vocal tracks with both male and female vocals as well as some brilliant instrumentals. This will undoubtedly end up in the electronica bin but there are so many soulful elements on the album that it deserves cross categorization. Sampling is what Jenks and Dingley do the best and it comes through on tracks like "Horseshit", a strange name for one of the coolest sample heavy tracks on the album. Listen to "Silver Light" for some of the very soulful elements of Alpha. In order for bands like Massive Attack to become relevant again, they are going to have to look to Alpha for some inspiration.
