On Shalabi Effect's bio it claims that they are free improvisation while not being atonal or not having any melody. If you just listened to the first track on Pink Abyss you would believe that they are totally lying in their bio. While The Trial Of St. Orange was a little more worldly, Pink Abyss is just a little more messed up and all over the place. I really enjoyed Shalabi Effect's last album but Pink Abyss effectively lost me. More of tracks like "Blue Sunshine" would have been fine by me and a little less of "Shivapria" type tracks. I think Shalabi Effect needs to focus in order to realize a sound that they are going for. This album is a little too distorted and diverse for full enjoyment. A couple tracks at a time is fine but the album as a whole just doesn't work. I think Anthony and Sam have huge potential but they need to pick a sound and go with it.
