Tom Jenkinson, better known to most as Squarepusher, has been pushing the boundaries of contemporary electronic music for almost a decade now. He has no problem implementing jazz elements where they have no business being. Time changes and interesting beats end up where you least expect them. On Go Plastic, Squarepusher is once again going where no one has gone before. It is an “in your face album that just never seems to let up. It has all the drum n bass elements you would expect but Tom seamlessly integrates the most techno of elements into the mix beyond anything ever seen. Take for instance the lead track and first single “My Red Hot Car which starts off very unassuming until the fractured vocals kick in. The song just builds from there. When you get to “Go! Spastic you will see more of these off kilter samples and beats that knock you off your feet if you are not prepared. On “Metteng Excuske v1.2 Tom gets completely crazy and is hardly able to keep a consistent rhythm going but if you listen closely you will realize the track is held together even amongst its chaos. Go Plastic is definitely one of Squarepusher’s more aggressive outings but if you go beyond the randomness of the samples you are bound to enjoy what he has to offer.
