Hot Hot Heat - Make Up The Breakdown

Hot Hot Heat - Make Up The Breakdown

Victoria, British Columbia's Hot Hot Heat have had a great couple years and it is largely due to the brilliance of Make Up The Breakdown. They prepared the world for what was to come with the Knock Knock Knock EP but when these new wave revivalists dropped Make Up The Breakdown nobody was ready for it. I was all over the Knock3 EP but failed to fulfill my musical needs until now with the purchase of Breakdown. Even two years after the album dropped it sounds important and ever so relevant in today's music scene. The album starts out with the unassuming "Naked In The City Again" and before you even know it's over they have the synth heavy "No, Not Now". If you have shied away from Hot Hot Heat because of their use of the keyboard, you should give them a chance. The synth really adds a dimension to the band that sets them apart. Hot Hot Heat deserver every credit they get. They have some similarities to a select few New York bands but I have to say that Hot Hot Heat are honestly better than the likes of The Strokes etc. I can't stop singing "Bandages" and "Get In Or Get Out". Fans of HHH have already experienced them live but if you don't own Make Up then you should seek it out. Maybe order it from Insound and start singing along. Need I mention that they are killer in a live setting?
