You don't hear of that many bands coming from Columbia but that is the home of The Kingdom Flying Club. Non-Fiction is their sophomore indie album, released on the tiny Emergency Umbrella label. They have been a fave of KCOU's Jason K-fer for since their debut. What's all the hype about? Well I'm not sure that it's totally deserved. They are able musicians that are able to write a catchy riff here and there. Non-Fiction easily fits into the indie rock model. There are some rocking tracks mixed with mid-tempo songs. They utilize a double guitar sound and have strong vocals. One issue they have is production on the album. The songwriting is very strong but there are some elements that should stand out a little more. There are times as well where Kingdom Flying Club sounds a little out of key. Non-Fiction is a fairly decent album though. If you come across it, you should check it out. Not worth going out of your way though. I know this is a young group and in time, they should get more and more impressive.
