Madcap - Under Suspicion
Madcap has found a new home. Victory Records signed the band up after a couple of albums on Side One Dummy. This album takes over where East Meets West left off. If you are unfamiliar with Madcap, think of all the classic punk bands you can and throw them into one group. That pretty much sums up what Madcap's sound reminds me of. Heavy on the Clash and Elvis Costello, depending on what songs you listen to. Madcap are able to adjust to pretty much any musical style in any given song. They even invite the horns from Catch 22 in to the studio for a track. Have a listen to the title track for some of the Costello influence there. I really like the mellower ska feel of the last track, "Midnight Strikes". Just enough there to keep you interested. They remind me a bit of Rancid but a little more accessible and a little less attitude. It would be cool if a band like Madcap could get some radio play but highly unlikely due to the current state of affairs. They really have a wide appeal and their music is instantly enjoyable. Under Suspicion is a fine album and their best to date.
