I think there was a shot heard round the world when Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry decided that they had done all they could do as Dead Can Dance. Sure, not a loud shot but one that rippled through the indie music communities all over the globe. Now move away from the stereotypes that you may have of Lisa Gerrard. Immortal Memory is a collaboration with acclaimed Irish composer Patrick Cassidy. This is more along the lines of a classical album than anything else. The theme of the album is a cycle of life, death and rebirth. Lisa gets a chance to move outside of what you may normally catch her doing and focus on arpeggios and the like. The music on Immortal Memory is gentle and flowing. It would make great meditation music as it rarely gets into anything that could resemble aggressive. Cassidy has done a great job with arranging and Lisa's voice sounds as lovely as ever. Classical fans need apply as well as anyone that appreciates a good female classical vocalist.
