The Bellakun is basically a side project for Egon musicians, Victor Talamantes and Sebastian Troll. Add to the mix Gabe Acevedo and Gabe Colugna and we have the band known as The Bellakun. The album title, Cantar Para Espantar La Soledad translates to "SIng to scare away loneliness", an appropriate title with it's post-rock feel. Other than Egon, the band that The Bellakun most closely resembles is Seam only a little more upbeat. They make use of piano in some songs and they are all fairly upbeat. There isn't anything too groundbreaking about Bellakun's sound but it is charming just the same. The vocals are prominent in most songs and Victor's voice rings out true. The song arrangements are lush and full but sometimes lacking in production value. That's a minor complaint though. Piano seems to be the key instrument here, which it seems a lot of indie bands are turning too. Look what you've done, Coldplay. If you come across The Bellakun's album, check it out. It's worth a couple listens.
