It was about two weeks ago now that Garage Band for Apple came out. I didn't really think much of it but now my idea of electronic music has changed. I still like music with good beats and downtempo vibes but my standards have been raised. Now that I can create some pretty decent beat ladened music myself, a group like The Karminsky Experience has to blow my head off in order to get my attention. By that I don't mean heavy beats but just some creative craftsmanship with their music. The Karminsky Experience is a London, UK-based duo that does pretty much what the Thievery Corporation brings to the US. Where TC is geared a little more towards a latin feel, Karminsky moves towards Middle Eastern music. On some songs it's not there but on others like the fun "Belly Disco" they incorporate a lot of those type of instruments. Sitars are prevalent on "Explorations". It's this niche that a group like Karminsky Experience brings to the table. The beats are fairly basic but it's what you dress them up with. Having a gimick like this brings people a familiarity with your music. I think Power Of Suggestion has a little room for improvement but for the most part, this is a really decent downtempo album. They are a good addition to the Eighteenth Street Lounge roster of artists.
