I wasn't too clear on who Earl Slick was until I started doing some research. Earl basically came out of nowhere to replace Mick Ronson in David Bowie's band. When Bowie took off to Germany, Slick decided to be a studio musician and most notably worked on John Lennon's Double Fantasy album. Slick has turned to some of today's (and yesterday's) biggest stars to help out on Zig Zag. His longtime buddy, David Bowie (for who he is indeed playing for again) joins him on the very Bowie-like track "Isn't It Evening". Also joining him is Robert Smith from the Cure with one of the best non-Cure songs "Believe". Royston Langdon from Spacehog joins him on the title track. I don't know where Slick tracked her down but Martha Davis of Motel's fame is on "St. Mark's Place". It is a track that just might be plausible for a radio single. Earl also pushes Joe Elliott to think outside of the Def Leppard box with an impressive track called "Psycho Twang". The track called "Crunched" features the female vocalist that goes by Summer Rose. There are four instrumentals interspersed on the album. They are guitar heavy tracks and the track 1735 really reminds me of something that Joe Satriani would have done in his Flying In A Blue Dream days. Zig Zag is a very accomplished album that pretty much any rock fan would enjoy.
