Atmosphere is the project of rapper Slug (aka Sean Daley). The come from the unlikely home of Minnesota (with regards to hip-hop). They have been around for a few years releasing some highly respected albums. Punk label Epitaph noticed this and decided to distribute their new album, Seven's Travels. Slug has the same passion that Eminem has even though Atmosphere's music is a little more light-hearted. Another thing about Atmosphere's music is that it is a little minimalistic in samples and beats. The beat is almost put into the back seat, behind Slug's charismatic vocals. Slug decides to take it upon himself to diss the mainstream hip-hop scene with tracks like "National Disgrace". The killer tracks that you cannot miss are "Reflections", "Shoes", "Trying To Find A Balance", and "National Disgrace". "Shoes" is an obvious nod toward Run-DMC. One problem I have with this album is the little conversations thrown into the album. "Suicide Girls" is an example of this. Sure, it's funny the first time but after even 3 listens I just end up skipping that track. Despite this downfall, Atmosphere comes highly recommended.
