When Dischord makes a decision to re-release a old album, it is usually for a good reason. A band like Soul Side, most people would have never heard about, much less forgotten about. I fall into the "never heard" category. Sure, I was into Black Flag and Minor Threat when I was a teen but coming from a small town, that was pretty much as extreme as it got. Soul Side was the result of a band called Lunchmeat breaking up. The guys felt that they had more music in them so they started up Soul Side. It's some great old school punk along the lines of Black Flag and Dag Nasty. They laid down the rules for so many punk bands to follow them. Less Deep Inside Keeps is Soul Side's debut album for the Sammich label. The music is actually quite mature for a band this young. Punk riffs galore are on tracks like "Fresh Air" and "You've Heard It Before". The band is even more infamous for spawning the amazing Girls Against Boys. If you are into old school punk, especially the DC area sound, then you need to know about Soul Side. This album isn't quite as essential as the compilation, Soon Come Happy, pulling from all their material besides the stuff on this album. Less Deep Inside Keeps was originally released in 1987 on Sammich records as vinyl only.
