When Mad Child and Prevail began the phenomenon known now as Swollen Members in 1999 I'm sure they never expected the reaction that they have gotten. Heavy marks their third full-length album, not including Monsters In The Closet, an album of rarities and B-sides which spawned a hit or two. This time around they have indeed moved into a heavier territory. With hard hitting tracks like "Paranoia" shows these boys ready to take on the masses. "Watch This" is a track that showcases these guys vocal skills. They are one of the smoothest hip-hop groups I have ever heard. If you are into the underground scene, enjoying groups like Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5 then you need to get into Swollen Members. They are young and fresh and pull of a complete hip hop album worthy of complete listens. The more you listen to Heavy, the more this album gets ingrained into your head. The album closes with one of the strongest tracks on Heavy. It's called "Ambush" and it's an in-your-face kind of track that shows no sign of Swollen Members letting up until they have world domination. You have to give these guys credit, too, for doing it all themselves. I'm sure that every label out there has been trying to sign them up but they are happy as clams on their own Battle Axe records, helping other similar artists out along the way. Four albums in and they just get better with every album.
