Love Is Love marks Lungfish's 10th album and for this release, former member Sean Meadows has returned to play bass. Some bands, after 10 years would have changed things up a bit but surprisingly Love Is Love could stand as the follow-up to their debut. And while Lungfish may always come across very similar but it is fine when you sound as unique as this. Daniel Higgs is a true poet and the Lungfish vehicle is a tool to get his messages out to the masses. Upon first discovery of a Lungfish album, you may think their music is a little jerky or disjointed but after a closer examination the hypnotic rhythms grab you by the balls and you start to pay attention to Higgs' lyrics. That is the key with Lungfish, as current fans know already. Get one of their albums, Love Is Love is as good a place to start as any, and put it on repeat over your headphones until an entire evening has passed. There is something completely hypnotic about the repetitiveness but it's like clockwork. Listen to "Hear The Children Sing" for a perfect example. There are very few bands that could pull of a repetitive riff like that through a 5 minute plus song. The best track has a trudging rhythm that seems to bowl you over. It's called "Fearfully and Wonderfully" with some inspired vocals by Daniel. The Unanimous Hour still holds a place in my heart but Love Is Love will enjoy a nice home beside it.
