Thrice happens to be one of the two "Th" bands to make it into the major leagues this year alongside like-minded Thursday. It was their brilliant The Illusion Of Safety that caught the attention of Island Records, although they were more than happy with their Sub City contract. The extra dollars that were provided by Island sure helped in the production realm of The Artist In The Ambulance. It is so crystal clear and yet crushingly heavy when needed. If you only have time for a quick listen at your local record store, flip on track 10, the title track for the strongest and catchiest song on Ambulance. This is one song that should be on every compilation this year. "Stare At The Sun" is another great track that melds their heaviness with a melody that is just too infectious for the masses to take. On other tracks like "Hoods On Peregrine" they go straight for the head and knock you over. When you are down on the ground they keep pummeling you until you say "Uncle". This has a lot to do with little or no space between songs. Usually you get a chance to catch a breath between songs but not on Artist In The Ambulance. Some of the intensity and screaming has died a little on this release but Thrice still have the power to deliver the goods. It's a lot more one-dimensional but it works just as well. That one dimension just seems so much heavier and thick on the deep end. Things are changed up a bit but change is good, for the most part.

I think this record is absolutely solid. The songs are not too hard, and not to soft. Right in the middle, where most people like their music to be. The whole CD just flows well together from the point where you put it into your CD player. If you're a musician[guitarist], the background guitars will make you want to pick up your instrument and see what exactly their guitarist is doing. I think this CD is actually very inspirational. The lyrics are great and it's filled with a bunch of singles that will keep you listening to this CD for a long time to come. If you had to choose a good CD to pick up, definitely get a copy of Artist in the Ambulance
