In almost the same vein as Up, Bustle and Out and The Nortec Collective, Radio Zumbido reaches into the traditional Guatemalan tradition to come up with something fresh and exciting. It’s more electronica than anything but main man Juan Carlos Barrios retreated to the rural countryside of his homeland and looked to it for influence and inspiration. He also recorded many samples that he would eventually integrate into his beat heavy music. Tracks are jazzy with a lot of horns making their way into the mix. Think of Radio Zumbido as a Guatemalan version of Coldcut. Juan’s background is in pop. He used to front the Latin band Bohemia Suburbana and with the ensuing break-up, he was left with all the creative freedom in the world. Many of the tracks on Radio are experimental and the never fail to provide enough substance. Los Ultimos Dias Del AM is a testament to what an international music electronica really is.
