It's been a couple years since we heard from Eric Westbury but he hasn't been laying low. He has just released his new album entitled Burnt Tongues and Blue Truths, his follow-up to Walking Tracks. Now, I can sort of remember his last album but this time around I'm thinking that Eric is sounding a lot like Jakob Dylan. Just vocal-wise, not musically. Westbury has a gruff voice that suits his music. The 11 tracks on this album drift by, each one a story in itself, and you end up feeling more than satisfied at the end. This time around Eric got in touch with legendary Texas producer and guitarist Gurf Morlix. Gurf has worked with such artists as Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Tom Russell, amongst others putting Westbury in perfect company. If you are a roots fan and enjoy folk writers, Eric Westbury is an artist that you need to seek out. His music is the kind that may not reach a large audience (and I'm sure that Eric could care less) but the people it does reach, he touches their heart with his honest songwriting style. Burnt Tongues just adds to his catalog and improving step by step.
