Plaid - Double Figure
If you have never heard of Plaid before you may be surprised to know that this is 2/3 of the Black Dog production; Ed Hanley and Andy Turner. Black Dog could be considered the forerunners of IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) along with Aphex Twin. Double Figure actually marks the Third album for Plaid (unless you count Trainer which was a early rarities compilation put out by Warp). It is also one of their most adventurous albums to date and actually one of Warp’s most accessible albums yet. Some of the tracks here sound like they could be straight from a soundtrack like the calm “Sincetta. Other tracks wouldn’t sound all that out of place on the dancefloor like “Squance. You definitely won’t get bored with Double Figure because it is an ambitious 70 minutes long. This duo proves that they are still in the forefront of electronic music.
