The Minders was formed by Martyn Leaper and Robert Schneider (Apples In Stereo) back in 1995. This was right in the middle of the Elephant 6 collective's high point. Elephant 6 was the collective that idolized both the Beach Boys and The Beatles and tried to recreate that sound in every psychedelic way possible. The Minders does exactly that while injecting some of todays pop influences into the mix. The end result is a very fun listenable pop album that is full of hooks and harmonies. I found myself hitting play, over and over again, proving that 8 songs of this kind of pop harmony is just way too short. The album is over in about 26 minutes, leaving you wanting much more. But there is a thing called repeat that works wonders for a good short album. With "Here Goes Nothing" I can almost catch myself singing Guided By Voices' "Glad Girls" along to it. There are similarities to Guided By Voices but I think the Minders end up going a little deeper. The album closer, "All The Way Around" is an epic track, if not in length, in sound. All in all, The Future's Always Perfect is a gentle and unassuming listen. You don't have to commit to it to enjoy it and that is something you don't find in music much these days.
