Is MusicEmissions too diverse? Maybe it's my own personal music tastes that are too diverse. You see, I'm listening to the new Capercaillie, one of Scotland's finest traditional bands. Not really surprising in itself but when it is following up a hardcore/death metal album by All Out War that's where we start to feel a little funny. Anyway, Capercaillie are back with their 200th album (or so it seems). Actually I think they are still under 20 releases since 1984. The band has been very successful selling over 1 million albums. Choice Language is an album that takes traditional Scottish songs and interprets them using modern music elements and technology. You can make out samples being used along the classic fiddles and whistles. Now Capercaillie is definitely not for everyone with their almost New Age style but anyone wanting a brief escape from a hectic schedule may find solace in Choice Language. It is a gentle album, maybe not Capercaillie's finest moment but still a good album. One of the best parts of this band is Karen Matheson's beautiful vocal presentation. The musicianship really is superb.
