Like a Bush appointment, KMFDM just will not die. We thought we saw the last of them with their Adios album but Sascha couldn't stay away. We saw Attak come out in 2002 and now he hits us again with WWIII. On the title track (and opening song) there is a bunch of quietness before George Bush ruins the peace. It kicks in and shows promise for the rest of the album. Lucia Cifarelli's vocals first appear on "From Here On Out" with what I think just might be the most accessible KMFDM track I've ever heard. When it comes time for "Blackball" we are delivered what we expect from this industrial frontrunner. There was a time when I felt that industrial music like this was overdone. Now that there are very few bands that even give it a shot, it is kind of refreshing every once and a while. I found myself fully engaged for most of the album. "Jihad" is an angry shot at mankind: "Homo-sapiens a dying species / Poor sick dumb numb feeding feces...Rattle your chains / Never back down / blow your brains / stand your ground". This is the sort of message that you can expect from Sascha and his group. War is always great industrial song fodder. This an aggressive album that may not be the best offering from KMFDM but one that proves coming out of retirement was warranted (even if it was only for two years).
