The Lawrence Arms follow-up the overly impressive Apathy and Exhaustion with this new album, The Greatest Story Ever Told. I found myself listening to Apathy and Exhaustion quite a bit, impressed with their total diversity and depth. Something you don't find that much in the punk genre these days. Still maintaining the three-piece attack, The Lawrence Arms have built on their past and created something even greater. Consider throwing Hot Water Music, Promise Ring, Sunny Day Real Estate, Burning Airlines and Saves The Day together for a jam session and The Lawrence Arms might be the resulting sound. As most three piece bands are capable, these guys pack a much more powerful punch than to be expected. Not only that but they have to fully capable singers in the threesome. There is no possible way for me to pick whether Brendan or Chris is the better singer. They are the type of singers that compliment each other in every way possible. To tell you the truth, there are elements of the Goo Goo Dolls here too. Earlier Goo's before they copped out for the AOR audience. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself listening to The Greatest Story Ever Told. The Lawrence Arms are indeed one of the finest bands to grace the Fat Wreck Chords label. I must make a note here of the classy cover. This is one of the sweetest packages this year.
