When Andrew and Peter Cash announced that they were finally going to record an album together, I was excited. When they dropped How Was Tomorrow on us in 2001, I got way more than I ever bargained for with these two Canadian music icons collaborating. It seemed kind of funny that they had never actually written music together but that is the case. With the release of A Brand New Night, we are up for more fantastic No Depression style harmonizing. Peter and Andrew's voices go together beautifully. Even though A Brand New Night is basically a continuation of How Was Tomorrow, it doesn't matter because it is really rare that you hear two artists that are this in tune with each other. "Give Me Your Hips" takes them in a little more rowdy direction with a bit of a sleazy feel to it. But there are some really great road-worthy tracks like "Sweet" and the gentle "Tillsonburg" that remind just what the Cash Brothers are capable of. A Brand New Night is a great album, although not as essential as How Was Tomorrow. If you are just being introduced to The Cash Brothers, start with their first album and then make a move to this one. A Brand New Night takes a little more focus to get into. I think the Cash Brothers are going to have even more staying power than the Skydiggers.
