April March is the alias for a multi-media artist known to her mother as Elinore Blake. She has been putting albums out for a few years now with her first four sharing the label of the White Stripes previous label, Sympathy For The Record Industry. Her recording career has been helped along by the likes of Ronnie Spector, Jonathan Richman, Brian Wilson as well as the hip Makers. Although she is from California, April March could easily be mistaken for a European (French to be exact) with her smooth French singing and sexy voice. The music has a retro vibe to it targeting the 60s scene. You can tell that the likes of Serge Gainsbourg is a big influence on April. To top it off, French producer extraodiniare, Bertrand Burgalat takes the production chair. That and more, he actually co-writes many of the songs with March. It's become standard for these two to work together as well. The mix that he provides may just be the missing link that April March needed. With her recent signing on PIAS I'm sure she is hoping to get a little more exposure than what she has gotten in the past. Triggers is definitely one of the more interesting albums reaching back to this era. One thing I would like to see is April March appearing on a trip hop project. Her voice is really something to be utilized in every sense.
