Avenged Sevenfold is back with an album entitled Waking The Fallen. It's an interesting blend of classic metal riffs, ala Iron Maiden and Helloween and modern hardcore. With this being said, Waking The Fallen comes of as a bloody ingenious and clever piece of work. There are even the Zack Wylde vibratos on tracks like "Desperate Through Reverance". Their music is dark and yet always uplifting. I'm not sure if it is the possibility of their music delving into the cheese category that gives it this uplifting quality but rest assured, they manage to stay away from the cheese. Their formula works well and they sound like a unique band once you put all the pieces of non-uniqueness together. Have a listen to the "woah, woah's" on "Second Heartbeat" and you will feel that your listening to one of the early New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. And then you jump into a song like "Radian Eclipse" and you start thinking about bands like Madcap and Bane. Avenged Sevenfold indeed are off the deep end and all over the map when it comes to inspiration. The album was produced by Mudrock (Godsmack, American Pearl, Puya) and he has done a fine job bringing out the best of Avenged Sevenfold. The production is crystal clear letting Shadow's voice ring out when necessary and the guitars take over when they need to.
