Smile Empty Soul is not the sort of band we usually review on MusicEmissions but I figured it was still OK because no one knows who they are. This three piece band is along the lines of a Linkin Park with it's alternative but accessible sounds. The music is ready for mainstream airplay right alongside the likes of Staind and Godsmack making their debut fairly unoriginal. Smile Empty Soul songs are all about being an angry and confused kid. This may stem from the fact that Sean Danielsen, the main songwriter in the band, was barely out of high-school when SES was formed. The album ranges from mellow hard-rock ballads like "This Is War" ("I'll blow your fucking head off/for my country") to the more impressive rocker "Bottom Of A Bottle". Smile Empty Soul is a band that fits into the post-grunge sound that is littering the radio right now. There is nothing new and exciting on their debut but they do show some promise. They need to look to some different influences in order to stand out, otherwise they will just get left behind because this music has all been done before.
