There are some people out in the electronica field that owe their careers to Orbital. Brother’s Phil and Paul Hartnoll started out the Orbital trip trying to bring electronic music to more than the rave crowd. At one point in their career they even played the Royal Albert Hall on a “sit down� tour. As you can tell from their record sales, Orbital succeeded in what they set out to do. This is what paved the way for the Chemical Brothers and Fat Boy Slim. Snivelization was probably their most adventurous album with highly interesting samples and very addictive beats taking you on the trip. Snivelization, the name, was taken from Russell Hoban’s book entitled Riddley Walker. Snivelization was taken as the post-literate term for Civilization. Orbital takes that and builds the musical soundtrack for what they see fit. It is electronica at it’s most accessible too. The loops and samples that the Hartnoll brothers splice together become masterful. The song “Are We Here?� is indeed one of electronica’s shining moments, proving that indeed electronic music can fit into a living room just as easily as it fits into a rave. There are parts where you couldn’t even dance including the album closer “Attached� with its long drawn out finish. Anyone who has ever bought a Chemical Brothers album and hasn’t heard of Orbital would do the right thing by investigating Snivelization.
