When On The Might Of Princes showed up in the mail, it was the first I had heard of the Long Island based rock band. It was to my surprise that I found out this was their third full-length and they had been together since 1998. Sirens is a fully realized album. The songs go together perfectly from one transition to the other. There are some similarities to a few emo bands out there but On The Might of Princes just seems like so much more. The dynamics that the foursome portray on Sirens is absolutely amazing. There are time shifts all over the place and hard/soft dynamics to get you totally into the music. Need proof? Look no further than "Carry Go, Bring Come", one of my favorite tracks on the album. The band can stretch out and keep the listener interested on a 6+ minute song or just brief you on a 1+ minute song. Jason Rosenthal takes on the role of lead singer and impresses the hell out me. His voice is one that is not perfect but the breaking up of the voice is one of the charms of OTMOP. He is able to take a gentle break and make it intimate and is able to scream his fucking head off but not so much as to irritate. I would be on the lookout for this band in the coming months. I think this album will impress a lot of people and end up on a lot of college charts.
