What does the world’s most infamous DJ choose to do for his debut album of original material? Well, Bunkka is Paul Oakenfold’s attempt at original material and the man proves that he wears many hats and is able to master many styles along the way. He opens the album up with the big beat sound of “Ready Steady Go and then goes a little easier with the beautiful track “Southern Sun that would fit nicely on a Delerium CD. He even ventures into the Hip Hop territory with Ice Cube on “Get Em Up which is one of the hottest rap tracks in recent history proving that Paul isn’t just a great DJ but a great producer as well. Some other artists that Oakenfold use are Nelly Furtado, Tricky, Grant Lee Phillips (lending vocals to one of the better tracks “Motion), Hunter S. Thompson, Perry Farrell, and Crazy Town. The producer of one of the 80’s greatest dance albums, Happy Monday’s Pills Thrills and Bellyaches, has proven himself a worthy thrown of greatest DJ on the earth. Now he adds to that as a stellar producer and a force able to pull all sorts of styles into one album worth of great and diverse material.
